DOE Solar Decathlon featuring 2011 solar building designs

The Solar Decathlon, sponsored by The United States Department of Energy, challenges 20 teams from Universities across the globe to construct an ideal solar home, designing, building, and operating their solar-powered home. The homes are then graded based on affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency.

The United States is represented by several universities. Also represented are Canada (University of Calgary), Belgium (Ghent University), China (Tongji University), and New Zealand (Victoria University of Wellington).
